The goal of environmental education is to develop a population that is aware of, and concerned about, the environment and its associated problems, and which has the knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivations and commitment to work individually and collectively toward solutions of current problems and the prevention of new ones.
Environmental Education Program
LSWC’s Environmental Education Program is designed to provide public information and increase environmental awareness.
Our Environmental Education objectives are:
1. To create stewardship educatonal resources in partnership with other conservation-minded
groups and agencies concerning topics such as:
> shoreline development and restoration
> water quality improvement
> aquatic habitat protection
> ecological sustainability
> low-impact recreational practices
> industrial and municipal pollution solutions
> human health issues
> threats to the health of the Lake Superior basin
2. To develop a basin-wide communication/education network, around the Lake. in cooperation
with existing organizations and to create opportunities, like “adopt-a-shoreline” program,
environmental awareness, learning, and global interaction.
3. To establish website based public education networks to gather and present up-to-date
information on ecological sustainability, to identify and promote our partner’s efforts,
and encourage grass roots involvement in land conservancy and watershed management
around the Lake Superior basin.
